Last week Mercedes-Benz introduced the all new Mercedes-Benz CLE. By the time I came across the teasers on their socials, I was quite convinced this was going to be an ‘electrical’ reveal. One that would send shock-waves among the enthusiasts. Well, for one, because it wasn’t an electrical vehicle being revealed since the engineers at Mercedes are rapidly moving towards an all-electric future.

The Mercedes-Benz CLE is a replacement to the C-Class and E-Class coupes and convertibles. Guess they were declared redundant at a recent company overview and Mercedes decided to retire them early. The good news is that it borrows heavily from the E-Class coupes. That means you should expect mid to top tier Mercedes-Benz luxury and power train options.

Engine & Performance Specs:

The Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 4Matic is fitted with a turbo-charged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that sends out 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft torque. That’s quite decent for mall runs or speed ticket runs. Just be sure to always smile at the speed gun whenever you see one. In addition to the already great output, it also features an electric motor that adds a decent 23 hp and 148 lb-ft.

Should you be out there looking for more power, the CLE 450 4Matic is the vehicle for you. It’s fitted with a turbo-charged 3.0-litre inline-six producing a whooping 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. As it’s counterpart, the vehicle is also fitted with an electrical motor that sends out more power in short bursts.

The CLE 450 comes fitted with a sport-tuned suspension which is optionally available on the CLE 300. Both models send power to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Interior & Tech Features:

From the photos surfacing online, the CLE borrows a lot from the redesigned C-Class. Even though we do not get the end to end screen as we do in the new E-Class, we get an 11.9-inch touchscreen front and center, along side a 12.3-inch driver’s display.

The screens complement the ambient lighting strips on the doors, air vents and even the center console. In my previous encounters with other Mercedes with this disco lighting layout, the new CLE’s interior will surely be a showstopper at night.

Standard kit includes heated front sport seats, MB-Tex synthetic leather upholstery and a 17-speaker Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos. Ventilated and massaging front seats, leather upholstery, and a variety of veneers are all on the options list.

The CLE, following the new E-Class, becomes the second vehicle in Mercedes’ lineup to incorporate the advanced third generation of the MBUX operating system. Building upon previous versions, the enhanced MBUX introduces a range of features, such as a natural language recognizing voice assistant. Notably, Mercedes introduces “routines” as part of the updated MBUX, encompassing pre-defined templates (like “Cold days”) that automate actions such as activating seat heaters and adjusting ambient lighting to orange.

Furthermore, users have the flexibility to create personalized conditional routines, enabling them to precisely specify their desired actions and conditions, with the car automatically executing them in the future.
