Have you driven a Mercedes? A Mercedes-Benz. Surely you can find salvation in German engineering. I’m a sedan man myself. The S-Class is heavenly, but perhaps you’ll be more comfortable in a G-Wagon. Hey! What about an SL Roadster, you and the Mrs. out on the road feeling the wind blowing through your weekend beach shirt. Have you seen the Maybach, with the executive rear seats, the massage function, cuff rests and the pull-down tables? Or perhaps a V-Class for the kids? Salvation comes from doing your best, which the engineers at Mercedes realised thus “Das Beste oder nichts”. This phrase best helps represent what Mercedes-Benz as a brand stands for.
Enough of the one-liners and philosophical cum evangelistical talk. Today we go in-depth on the Mercedes V-Class.
The Interior:
The V-Class is an eye-catcher all round. The V-Class rouses and stirs attention with its contemporary design and high-class appeal- both inside and out. It is a highly sought-after vehicle due to its beautiful operating and display idea, strong character lines, and premium materials.
The V-high-quality Class’s interior introduces a new favourite spot into your life. Enjoy the exclusive appearance of the cockpit with its flawless design.
And, thanks to ambient lighting, you can always create the ideal environment for both driver and passenger.
While in this vehicle, expect nothing but comfort. Hardly a wish is incomplete, whether in the back compartment or the cockpit. The panoramic sliding sunroof and the integral refrigerated compartment in the centre console, for example, all contribute to a genuine sense of well-being.
The V-Class adapts to your changing needs. Various combinations of individual seats, 2-seater or 3-seater bench seats are available for the two rear rows of seats. There’s more than plenty of space to relax in this car.
The Technical features:
MBUX encompasses a multimedia system with voice control. The high-end Burmester surround sound system will ensure that everyone, whether in the cockpit or on the rear bench seat, gets a prompt reply from the answers to any questions you pose to it. ‘Mercedes me connect’ creates a unique connection between you, your smartphone, and your Mercedes-Benz. Whether on the road or at home, Mercedes me connect allows you to easily check important vehicle data such as mileage, tyre pressure, and tank fill level using the Mercedes me portal or the Mercedes me app.
The Drive & Ride quality:
The AIRMATIC air suspension can adjust the suspension to suit the terrain, whether on a highway or a gravel road. Furthermore, the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission and Dynamic Select drive programs enhance driving comfort. At the end of the journey, the Parking Package with 360° camera offers additional assistance. The V-Class 2.1-litre diesel engine produces 187 bhp. This means that the economy is great without sacrificing performance. The V-Class is actually quite good in this category, with a 0-62mph sprint time of 9.1 seconds and 480Nm of torque which comes in quite handy when overtaking ( I at times prefer the term playing checkers on the road, if you know what I mean) .
There are four driving modes available with the Agility Select system: Eco, Manual, Comfort, and Sport. These adjust the throttle response and steering to your liking, but most people will simply leave the car in Comfort mode, which best suits the car’s nature. The gearbox is sluggish and hangs onto gears for too long, resulting in jerky upshifts on occasion. When you put the car in Eco mode, the throttle response becomes dulled – it’s a little too slow to be used all the time, whereas Sport mode is quick to change down into lower gears, which hurts economy.
On the highway, if well-driven, can give you a sterling consumption of 16km/l and within an urban setting can give you 12.5km/l. Quite friendly if you ask me.
