On 10 June 2019, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Mercedes-Benz GLB. The ‘new’ Mercedes-Benz GLB is a compact luxury crossover SUV. Earlier in the same year, April 2019, it was unveiled to the public as a concept car. The GLB is fitted with a third row unlike the smaller GLA and slightly smaller sibling, the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Configuration
The Mercedes-Benz GLB has various engine configurations, such as the GLB 180 which is a 4-cylinder (inline 4 turbo), 1.3-litre petrol engine which accelerates to 100km/h in an alleged 9.1 seconds. The engine churns out 161 bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine is paired with the 7G-DCT (dual-clutch gearbox).
The GLB 200d diesel option uses a 2.0-litre engine (4 cylinder) which gets from zero to a hundred kilometres per hour in an alleged 9.0 seconds. The engine produces 148bhp and 320Nm of torque. It is also available in 4Matic drive.
The GLB 220d uses the same engine, but with power increased to 187 bhp and an incredible 400Nm of torque. It gets 4Matic as standard which comes in handy when towing. It gets from 0-100 km/hr in 7.6 seconds. The GLB 220d gets the 8-DCT (dual-clutch) gearbox.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLB 45 4Matic uses a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine which produces 306 bhp. It’ll get you from halt to 100km/hr in 5.2 seconds.

Fuel Economy
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is impressively economical. This is attributed to a vast configuration of four-cylinder engines.
The GLB 200d’s consumption is quite impressive. The engine achieve’s an incredible 21.6 kilometres per litre on the highway and an estimated 18.3 km/l while doing urban runs.
The GLB 200 petrol configuration gives a fuel economy of 16 km/l on the highway and an estimated 13 km/l within urban confines.
Interior & Technology
The Mercedes-Benz GLB interior borrows heavily from the A-Class and GLA class. The general layout of the dashboard is lifted straight from both cars, with an option of one large infotainment screen or two smaller ones.
The infotainment screen is easy to navigate using the touchscreen that allows you to scroll through the different menu items that are available. You can also navigate the screen though the pad on the centre console and also one on the left side of the steering wheel, next to the volume and smartphone controls. As usual, you’ll get a crystal clear display. Connectivity is quite seamless and straightforward. The infotainment also features Apple Car Play and Android Auto making the experience way better.

The third-row has enough space for ‘small people’ not to feel cramped, although it can’t be recommended for longer journeys. The boot space is quite spacious and when the seats are folded flat it offers 500 litres of storage space.

Safety:
When it comes to safety, the GLB earned a five-star EuroNcap rating which is as high as it goes. The car features multiple airbags, active lane-keeping assist, active brake assist, fatigue monitor, cruise control with speed limiter, speed limit assist and rain-sensing wipers. Five-seat models get ISOFIX points on the two outer rear seats, while seven-seat models get an extra pair of ISOFIX points in the third row.
AMG Line Premium Plus and GLB 35 4Matic Premium Plus models also feature a Driving Assistance package. This features an array of safety systems designed to keep you out of trouble. The list includes Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Braking Assist, Active Distance Assist, Active Steering Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, exit warning function, Pre-Safe Plus and route-based speed adjustment.
